U of S Music Department Head Dean McNeill just finished a major professional development project in which he wrote and arranged all the music for a professional jazz ensemble.

McNeill then organized and rehearsed two professional jazz bands, which subsequently performed the music in Edmonton and Saskatoon.

The Edmonton performance, Nov. 5 at the Yardbird Suite jazz club, featured professional musicians from throughout western Canada.

The Saskatoon performance, held on campus Oct. 24 in the Quance Theatre as part of the University’s In Performance concert series, featured the local professional Metro Jazz Band.

In addition, McNeill lectured on his compositions in the Fine Arts Research Lecture Series on Nov. 7.
