Mission Green recognizes CLS

A team of environmental adventurers on a cross-Canada drive to recognize what Canadians are doing to protect and improve the environment stopped at the U of S Sept. 29 to applaud the contribution the Canadian Light Source (CLS) synchrotron will make to research into environmental issues. From left, Peter Schlay and Garry Sowerby, both of Halifax, and Bill Rumsey, of St. John’s, Nfld., pose at the CLS with their advanced-technology General Motors-supplied vehicles, including, at right, one that runs on an 85-per-cent ethanol blend from plants such as grain chaff. Their trip began Aug. 16 in Halifax and is working its way west. Team leader Sowerby, a world-record-setting international long-distance driver, says the projects he has seen makes him “proud of Canadians”.
