Remembering W.O. Mitchell

Saskatoon Star-Phoenix photographer Greg Pender shoots former long-time U of S Education Prof. Wally Stinson in the Main Library Oct. 4 next to the just-unveiled bust of famed western Canadian author W.O. Mitchell.

Stinson was a boyhood friend of Mitchell and his brothers in their hometown of Weyburn. Stinsonís son, sculptor and U of S alumnus Al Stinson, created the bust for the U of S. It is a replica of one he made earlier for the Mitchell family. U of S Library Director Frank Winter unveiled the bust at a ceremony next to the main circulation desk. Mitchell, who died in 1998, was best known for his works Who Has Seen the Wind and Jake and the Kid.
