Scholarships boosted

Increasing student recruitment and retention is the goal of a $580,000 boost to undergraduate scholarships at the U of S announced Oct. 18.

Of the total, $385,000 is allocated to the University’s existing scholarship program, giving an additional 770 students with high school averages of between 85 and 89.9 per cent a scholarship valued at $500. There will be $150,000 going to new scholarships for students transferring to the U of S, and another $45,000 available for students participating in exchange or study abroad programs.

The funds will come initially from the University’s Academic Priorities Fund and eventually from revenue generated by the Preston Crossing retail shopping development.
