Magotiaux named V-P
One year into her term as executive director and chief advancement officer of University Advancement, Heather Magotiaux has been named the University’s newest vice-president.
Effectively immediately, the new Vice-President of University Advancement will be responsible for major fundraising campaigns and overseeing the U of S’s communications, development and alumni activities. In announcing the appointment, President Peter MacKinnon said creation of the vice-presidency “reflects the critical importance of University Advancement to the future of the University of Saskatchewan”.
As the University moves into a major capital campaign, MacKinnon said Magotiaux’s expertise “will ensure that we have the leadership and support of a world-class university advancement team”.
A former director of communications at the U of S, Magotiaux spent two years as Vice-President of Advancement at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia before returning to Saskatoon in September 2003 to head up the amalgamated communications, alumni and development unit. At St. FX, she led the largest capital campaign in that institution’s history, raising over $35 million. She also chaired its 150th anniversary celebrations.
During her time in Nova Scotia, St. FX was ranked first in alumni support and fifth in reputation in Maclean’s magazine’s annual assessment of Canadian universities. That helped St. FX capture first place overall in the Primarily Undergraduate category.
