Students get news site

A new U of S website is up and running, providing news about matters of interest to students here.

University Communications launched the site, called The Update, last week to provide a way to convey brief news items and information links of broad interest to U of S students. While the Students & Enrolment Services Division provides a comprehensive website loaded with information for students, a website like The Update was needed to give newsworthy items a high profile.

The site – at http://blogs.usask.ca/studentnews – will be updated regularly. Its items will be archived online and can be searched by keyword or categories. The Update content can also be automatically fed, on demand, to other websites and will be available as a channel in PAWS.

People across campus are currently being notified about the creation of The Update and are being invited to submit potential news items for the site, and to put links to The Update on their own college, department or administrative unit websites – especially on sites that students visit.

The Update was created using the University’s new Movable Type blog software, with technical development by ITS blog services manager Kevin Lowey.
