Pre-Christmas auction & raffle raises $1,000 for breast cancer research

In its seventh annual – and most successful – pre-Christmas silent auction and raffle, staff in the offices of Residence, Hospitality Services and Director of Consumer Services have raised more than $1,000 for charity.

Organizer Sandra Twardy, of the Residence Office, says during the day on Dec. 8, people came by to view and make bids on crafts, ornaments and baking provided by staff and suppliers.

Twardy says baked items this year included such goodies as baclava and biscotti made by some of the area’s caretaking staff. And crafts included fleece-lined jackets, latte machines and china.

She says $1,008.50 was raised and will go to the Saskatoon Breast Cancer Research Centre at City Hospital. The names of 10 of the staff who donated items to the auction and raffle will be drawn and each will receive a tax receipt for $100 of the money going to the research centre.
