Aboriginal education research promoted

Aboriginal education research promoted

From left, Dean of Education Cecilia Reynolds, artist Kevin Pee-ace, Education Professor Marie Battiste and University Co-ordinator of Health Research Bruce Waygood, stand in front of artwork by Pee-ace in the new Aboriginal Education Research Centre (AERC), opened earlier this year in the College of Education. The centre will partner with First Nations, professional groups, faculty and students to promote Aboriginal education as well as building research capacity and improving teaching on Aboriginal issues. The college also signed a co-operation agreement with the Office of the Treaty Commissioner to further knowledge about treaties. Battiste, who is academic director of the AERC, notes that a number of research projects have already been started.
