Toxicologist joins U of S

Giesy

John Giesy, an expert in industrial pollutants currently working in the zoology department of Michigan State University, has been appointed Canada Research Chair in Environmental Toxicology at the U of S.

Set to being work in May 2006 in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, Giesy will study industry-produced persistent organic pollutants. He will be based in upgraded facilities in the Toxicology Building.

Giesy will work to produce sensitive and cost-effective tools to test for pollutants in the environment, paying particular attention to fragile ecosystems like the Canadian Arctic.
