Couch potatoes ‘in motion’

Three teams of ‘couch potatoes’ from the U of S – two teams from the College of Kinesiology and one from the Dept. of Health, Safety and Environment – took part in the May 3 kick-off of Saskatoon’s ‘In Motion’ program, which has groups from the City, the health district, the University, and others promoting regular activity for fitness and health. The noon-hour couch races pitted 11 teams against each other on Spadina Cres. near the Bessborough Hotel. To win, teams had to reach the finish line about 100 m away, then take off their potato sack shirts and put on ‘In Motion’ program t-shirts. None of the U of S teams won a heat, which Kinesiology’s Fitness Co-ordinator, Trish Mitchell, says must have been due to a "bad couch". Above, Kinesiology Profs. Dr. Karen Chad, Dr. Louise Humbert and Dr. Kevin Spink race along, to the delight of onlookers.
