Bearing a message to youth around the world

On a chilly afternoon Dec. 10, the World Youth Day Cross donated in 1984 by Pope John Paul II to the youth of the world visited the U of S.  A small group carries it from Nobel Plaza at 4:30 p.m. at the start of a circuit around much of the campus, en route to a 5:30 p.m. reflection ceremony at Ogle Hall, and a special mass at St. Thomas More College chapel at 7:30 p.m.  The cross has been travelling the world, the Pope says “as a symbol of Christ’s love for humanity”, and also to promote biennial World Youth Days – the next one being in Toronto July 18-29, 2002.  The U of S cross events were sponsored by the Ukrainian Catholic Campus Ministry, the Newman Centre, Catholic Christian Outreach, St. Thomas More Campus Ministry, and the Diocese of Saskatoon.
