Faculty to meet Jan. 22 for ratification vote
A general meeting of the U of S Faculty Association, open to all 950 members, will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tues., Jan. 22 in Rm. 105 Thorvaldson for a vote on whether to ratify a new one-year collective agreement.
The University and the Faculty Association issued a joint news release Dec. 21 announcing they had arrived at the tentative deal.
Its terms won’t be released until after the ratification vote. It would apply to the period July 1, 2001–June 30, 2002.
USFA Chair, Law Prof. Tim Quigley, said Jan. 4 the union’s executive is recommending acceptance of the agreement to its membership.
And he says both the USFA and the University would like to get busy and settle another, multi-year contract soon.
“The two parties have agreed we’ll go back to the table right away and try to bargain a longer-term agreement,” Quigley said.
He said the agreement covers faculty, librarians, extension specialists, research scientists at the Crop Development Centre, and about 80 people in the College of Medicine.
