U of S announces VP finance and resources
The U of S Board of Governors, chaired by Susan Milburn, has approved the appointment of Greg Fowler as vice-president finance and resources for a five-year term starting June 1, 2013.
By Kris Foster"After a comprehensive national search Greg was unanimously recommended by the search committee for this important position," said University President Ilene Busch-Vishniac. "The committee conducted an extremely rigorous search with approximately 50 applicants considered, many from outside the province and the country."
Fowler joined the U of S in 1994 as assistant controller of St. Thomas More College and became the college's controller in 1998. In 2006, he became director of operations for the U of S College of Nursing, before being appointed director of consumer services in 2007, a position he held until stepping in as acting vice-president finance and resources in April 2012.
"Greg stepped into this role in an acting capacity about a year ago and he has shown that his experience and competencies have prepared him exceptionally well for this position," said Busch-Vishniac, chair of the search committee. "What is also clear to everyone on the search committee is Greg's dedication to our university."
During his time at the U of S, Fowler has led a diverse range of initiatives including significant capital and renovation projects and campus-wide efforts to increase efficiencies and more effectively utilize resources.
"The search committee recognized Greg's knowledge of the university and experience as ideally suited to lead the U of S during this important time of change," said Ehimai Ohiozebau, president of the Graduate Students Association. "As a student member of this committee for the past number of months, I'm absolutely positive Greg is the right person for the job."
The search committee consisted of 11 members from various groups including student associations, deans, faculty, Senate, Board of Governors and senior administration.
"The committee was particularly struck by Greg's breadth of knowledge and experience — beyond any doubt, he was our unanimous choice to take on this important role during this critical time for the university," said professor Dean McNeill, department of music.
Fowler, in this position, will continue responsibility for monitoring and reporting the university's operating, capital and research budgets. The Office of the Vice-President Finance and Resources includes the areas of consumer services, corporate administration, facilities management, financial services, human resources, and campus safety.
Fowler received his Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Economics in 1988 and Masters of Business Administration in 1992 both from the U of S.
