Around the Bowl: February 2026
Here is a look at some of the appointments, announcements and awards from the past month at the University of Saskatchewan (USask):
Dr. Anurag Saxena (MD) of the university’s College of Medicine has been selected as president-elect of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for the 2026-27 term. Saxena is a professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at USask. In other College of Medicine News, Cecil Bitusis joined the Dean’s Office as the research finance co-ordinator.
The College of Nursing announced the appointment of Dr. Tania Kristoff (PhD) in the newly created assistant dean student support position. Kristoff has been teaching in the college since 2016 and previously held the role of undergraduate academic lead. Kristoff earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing USask in 1997, a BA in Sociology from University of Regina in 1998, a Master of Nursing at USask in 2005, and Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration at USask in 2020.
USask’s College of Law has welcomed a new Estey Chair in Business Law to the college. Gail Henderson began her term as chair on January 1 and will continue to serve in the college until June 30, 2026. She is a professor and Business Law Program Director at Queen’s Law, as well as a member of the Ontario Securities Commission’s Investor Advisory Panel.
Dr. Rainer Dick (PhD), a professor in the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics at USask, has been named the 2025/26 recipient of the College of Arts and Science Faculty Service Excellence Award. The annual award recognizes extraordinary contributions by a faculty member to department, college and university committees, leadership and governance.
The Huskie Football Foundation has announced that CFL Hall of Famer Michael (Pinball) Clemons will be the guest speaker at this year’s Dogs’ Breakfast. The former all-star running back, Grey Cup-winning coach and president/CEO of the Toronto Argonauts will headline the football fundraiser on April 30 at Prairieland Park.
Professional Women’s Hockey League player Kaitlin Willoughby will headline this year’s annual Huskie Women of Influence Breakfast scholarship fundraiser on Feb. 10 at TCU place. Willoughby is a USask graduate and former member of the Huskie women’s hockey team.
