The scholarships were announced as part of the legacy project of the 2019 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic outdoor game being played on Saturday night at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium, featuring the Jets and the Flames. The NHL will also provide $150,000 in scholarship support for University of Regina Cougars hockey players as part of its support for minor hockey.
USask President Peter Stoicheff was on hand in Regina for Friday’s announcement by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, on the eve of the annual outdoor extravaganza. The NHL Hockey Is For Everyone scholarship was unveiled at the NHL legacy luncheon. Saturday’s Heritage Classic will be the seventh regular season NHL game played in the province of Saskatchewan.
