Dr. Marcos Colazo
Born and educated as a veterinarian in Argentina, Colazo and his family moved to Saskatoon to pursue his dream of becoming a scientist. Under the supervision of Drs. Reuben Mapletoft and John Kastelic in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the U of S, Colazo earned his PhD (2005) in animal reproduction with a focus on synchronization of estrus and ovulation in beef cattle. He is currently working in the livestock research division of Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development.
The CSAS's Young Scientist Award recognizes Colazo's contributions to his field, including his development of widely used protocols for synchronization of estrus or ovulation in cattle, numerous publications and his training of students, veterinarians, industry professionals and producers.
