Wiebe awarded Houston professorship
Karen Wiebe has been awarded the Stuart and Mary Houston Professorship in Ornithology in the Department of Biology.
By Colleen MacPhersonWith the professorship, Wiebe will be expected to be a prominent and active participant in ornithological research, and to contribute to graduate and undergraduate teaching. The professorship comes with a $22,000 annual research grant.
Wiebe, who earned her PhD from the U of S in 1993, studies the behaviours, reproduction and ecology of birds. Much of her work focuses on the factors that determine the reproductive success of individuals such as predation, food supply, and habitat and nest site selection. She is particularly interested in incubation and hatching patterns, and sex roles during reproduction.
