Freezing and preserving the genetic material of life is an idea that sounds like a sci-fi tale, but it is a process a research scientist at Agriculture and Agri-foods Canada is determined to master with help from colleagues at the Canadian Light Source (CLS).

Muhammad Anzar is working on cryopreservation of genetic material from rare livestock breeds and is overcoming the problems caused by ice crystals thanks to the ingenious application of CLS technology.
