USask achieves high marks in international university rankings

The University of Saskatchewan (USask) is recognized around the world as a top-calibre research institution – and that reputation was recently reflected in two international university rankings announced this week.

USask ranked 378th in the world in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, a system that uses data points to rank universities through five main indicators: Research and Discovery, Employability and Outcomes, Learning Experience, Global Engagement, and Sustainability.

This placement marks USask’s third-highest placing in the QS rankings, even with the number of institutions considered for these rankings at an all-time high with more than 1,500 in the running.

“As these international rankings continue to grow in scope, USask continues to thrive as one of the world’s top universities,” said USask Vice-President Research Dr. Baljit Singh (PhD). “These rankings reflect USask’s successes globally as we continue to strive to be what the world needs.”

USask also achieved high marks in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact rankings, which measures institutions against the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out by the United Nations as necessary for prosperity and global partnership among all countries in the world.

USask ranked in the top 100 schools globally in three SDGS: Life Below Water (50th), Sustainable Cities and Communities (55th), and Partnerships for the Goals (81st).

The university also ranked among the top 200 schools globally in an additional four SDGs: Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Reduced Inequalities, and Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.

Despite 355 more institutions added to the THE Impact rankings this year to bring the total number of schools to 2,318, USask maintained its overall ranking in the 101-200 tier – placing it in the upper echelon of all research institutions worldwide.

“USask is consistently achieving greatness, and these rankings are just one example of that success recognized on a global scale,” said USask Acting Provost and Vice-President Academic Dr. Vincent Bruni-Bossio (PhD). “The level of scholarship reflected by USask is celebrated locally, nationally and internationally.”
