University of Saskatchewan welcomes Dr. Anthony Atala for the 2013 Whelen Visiting Lecture
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 21, 2013 The University of Saskatchewan invites media to attend the 2013 Whelen Visiting Lecture with Dr. Anthony Atala, a practicing surgeon and a researcher in the area of regenerative medicine. His current work focuses on growing new human cells, tissues and organs. The lecture is open to faculty, students, and interested members of the public, free of charge.

Dr. Atala will discuss his work and the recent advances in regenerative medicine and new technologies and therapies for patients with end-stage tissue and organ failure. His research was listed as Time magazine's top 10 medical breakthroughs of the year, and as Discover magazine`s Number 1 Top Science Story of the Year in the field of medicine in 2007.
The Whelen Lecture was established in 1987 through a bequest from a distinguished alumnus of the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Myron Whelen. Its mandate is to bring internationally-recognized authorities in disciplines taught at the university to the U of S campus.
