Dental students at the U of S are bridging the dental care gap for people with special needs through Sharing Smiles Day

Oral Health, Total Health Saskatoon together with the University of Saskatchewan College of Dentistry invite media to attend Sharing Smiles Day—the first event of its kind in Saskatchewan to promote education and emphasize the importance of oral health care for people with special needs.

Currently, the dental and oral health of people with special needs is undertreated, which can adversely affect the overall health. Sharing Smiles Day is a start to bridging this health gap in Saskatoon and the province.

Sharing Smiles Day will include the following activities:

Carnival fun and games led by dental students for persons with special needs
Luncheon with speakers
Colgate sponsored interactive oral hygiene demonstrations



The following individuals and groups are also participating in Sharing Smiles Day:

Persons with special needs from the community and care workers
University of Saskatchewan dental students and SIAST oral hygiene students
Local dentists and researchers
Saskatchewan Roughriders Scott McHenry, Ben Heenan and Levi Steinhauer
Canadian Olympic Bobsledder Ben CoakwellMedia are welcome to attend the interactive demonstrations. Richard Andrews, our OHTH chapter chair, will be available for on-site interviews to discuss the event.
