U of S shines spotlight on public transit
SASKATOON - Media and members of the public are invited to hear acclaimed international public transit planner Jarrett Walker speak in this Saturday's Great Places event, presented by the University of Saskatchewan (U of S) Regional and Urban Planning program and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada:
Saturday, March 12, 7:30 pm
Broadway Theatre
715 Broadway Avenue
Saskatoon
The free presentation, titled Public Transit as an Instrument of Freedom, is also sponsored by the City of Saskatoon and the U of S Planning Students Association. It will be followed by a reception and book-signing. Great Places is a discussion forum that focuses on current issues related to the built environment in Saskatoon as shaped by architecture, urban planning, public art and landscape design. The group brings together visionary design professionals, government officials and citizens to discuss projects, initiatives and precedents—locally and from abroad.
With Saskatoon currently planning a transformation of its transit services, this presentation will be particularly timely. Walker is the author of Human Transit: How Clearer Thinking About Public Transit Can Enrich Our Communities and Our Lives, and is president at Jarrett Walker + Associates, based in Portland, Ore. He is also a principal consultant with MRCagney in Australia.
