Hockey coach Dave King and musician Joni Mitchell will receive honorary degrees todays. In Mitchell’s absence, the U of S president will accept Mitchell’s degree on her behalf and Canadian singer/song writer Kathleen Edwards will sing a musical tribute in honour of Mitchell.

DETAILED CEREMONY INFORMATION
CEREMONY 1: Monday, June 4, 9 am—Interviews at noon
The academic procession begins at 8:45 am, speeches at 9 am and graduates start walking across the stage at 10 am. Media interviews with Dave King begin at noon behind the stage.
Graduating: Engineering
Honorary Doctor of Laws:Dave King is alegendary coach in Canadian hockey circles and a U of S graduate. King has compiled a remarkable track record of success that spans five decades in the game nationally and internationally
University Staff Excellence Award: Dale Claude has provided world-class lab experience to students in the College of Engineering for almost 40 years.
CEREMONY 2: Monday June 4, 2 pm—Interviews at 5 pm
The academic procession begins at 1:45 pm, speeches are at 2 pm, and graduates start walking across the stage at 3 pm. Media interviews with U of S President Peter Stoicheff begin at 5 pm behind the stage.

Honorary Doctor of Letters: Joni Mitchell is a generational talent, hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as “one of the greatest songwriters ever”. She will not be present at the ceremony. U of S President and Vice-Chancellor Peter Stoicheff will receive the honorary degree on Mitchell’s behalf. Canadian singer/song writer Kathleen Edwards will sing a musical tribute in honour of Mitchell.
