Fall Convocation welcomes 992 more USask alumni

SASKATOON – Fall Convocation at the University of Saskatchewan (USask) takes place Wednesday, November 12 at Merlis Belsher Place.

There are 992 students graduating, some of whom have multiple degrees or certificates. The total number of degrees and certificates to be awarded is 1,018.

These graduates join a century-old community of more than 175,000 alumni worldwide whose contributions are helping to shape our world.

Both morning and afternoon ceremonies will be streamed live on the convocation webpage.

Story ideas:

  • A number of awards will be presented, including the Distinguished Researcher Award and the Distinguished Teacher Award, as well as an honorary degree and the President’s Medal.
  • Honorary Degree recipient Chief Perry Bellegarde LL.D (afternoon ceremony)
  • President’s Medal recipient Aiden Sean Gerwing (afternoon ceremony)
  • Distinguished Teacher Award presented to Ben Hoy (afternoon ceremony)
  • Distinguished Researcher Award presented to Daniel Chen (morning ceremony)
  • This will be the first convocation with Scott Banda as chancellor. There will be an installation ceremony overseen by the Lieutenant Governor, Her Honour Bernadette McIntyre. Banda is the 17th chancellor in USask’s history.
  • This will be the final convocation with Peter Stoicheff serving as university president and vice-chancellor. Stoicheff’s term as president will conclude in December.
  • The morning ceremony will mark Elder Roland Duquette’s 100th ceremony on stage. Duquette holds the revered position of Eagle Staff Bearer for USask convocation ceremonies and leads the Grand Entry procession.
