U of S connections in city council chambers
Saskatoon’s new mayor and city council was officially sworn in on Monday night, with the majority of councillors featuring University of Saskatchewan connections.
By University CommunicationsCity councillors Cynthia Block (Bachelor of Arts, English, 1985), Troy Davies (Certificate in Hospital Administration, 1999), Bev Dubois (Certificate in Business Administration, 1981), Sarina Gersher (Bachelor of Science Honours, 2012), Hillary Gough (Bachelor of Arts Honours, Archaeology) and Mairin Loewen (Master of Arts, Political Studies, 2013) are all U of S alumni. City councillors Zach Jeffries, Randy Donauer and Darren Hill also previously took courses at the university.
While Mayor Charlie Clark earned his bachelor’s degrees from the University of Toronto and University of Winnipeg and his master’s from York University, his wife Sarah Buhler is an associate professor in the College of Law at the U of S.
“I believe there is a sense of optimism in the city over what we can achieve,” the Saskatoon StarPhoenix reported Clark stating in his opening remarks at council on Monday night as he took the oath of office at the city council chambers.
