In photos: USask celebrates at Spring Convocation 2026

A proud moment shared with loved ones: Convocation is one of the most meaningful traditions at the University of Saskatchewan (USask)—a time for all of us to come together and celebrate the dedication, perseverance, and success of our students.

From June 1 to 5, nearly 4,000 USask students crossed the stage at Merlis Belsher Place to officially become graduates, joining a global network of more than 180,000 USask alumni who are making an impact in Saskatchewan, across Canada, and around the world.

These ceremonies give us the chance to show how proud we are of everything they have achieved. Take a look at some of the day's special moments:

On Monday, June 1, President Vince Bruni‑Bossio was installed during Spring Convocation — a milestone shared with the Class of 2026.

During the ceremony, Bruni-Bossio gave greetings to the graduates and those in the audience, and shared:

“Today’s installation has a special meaning for our university. The oath I took under our Lieutenant Governor is more than a symbolic gesture — it is a promise from myself to this institution and community.”

The ceremony includes the celebration of honorary degree recipients. An honorary degree is the university’s most prestigious award, acknowledging worthy and unique contributions recipients have made to their community and to the world.

At this year’s USask Spring Convocation ceremonies the university will award honorary degrees to USask alumnus Murad Al-Katib, a celebrated entrepreneur from Saskatchewan who turned his Canadian startup into a billion-dollar global plant-based protein company, and Dr. Gagandeep Kang (MD, PhD), a world leader in microbiology from India whose innovative interdisciplinary infectious disease research supports international initiatives and organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO).

There was no shortage of smiles, both on stage and off, as the celebrations continued throughout the day.

Congratulations to all our award winners and all members of the USask Class of 2026!
